Pen Component Materials
The component parts are plated with various metals which have different resistance to wear. For your information I am listing the wear rating using stars, where one star is the least scratch resistant and 5 stars is the most resistant :
24K Gold - wear resistance is 1 1/2 stars, the gold is flash plated very thinly, then coated with an epoxy to improve its scratch resistance. This is the least protection but should last a few years if treated with respect.
10K Gold - wear resistance is 3 stars, the 10K gold is blended with nickel to form a plating which is hard and much more resistant to scratching than its 24K counterpart.
Chrome - wear resistance is 4 stars, better resistance than 10K gold. Will still look good after many years.
Silver - wear resistance of 4 stars, coated with an epoxy to prevent scratching. Will stay bright for many years.
Titanium - wear resistance of 5 stars, will keep its original appearance for many years, as good as it comes.
Platinum - Wear resistance of 5 stars, will keep its original appearance for many years, as good as it comes.
Rhodium - Wear resistance of 5 star, will keep its original appearance for many years, as good as it comes.
